[Tutorial] How to Play Vindictus with a Xbox 360 Controller

I play Vindictus with my Xbox 360 controller.
So far I have Hurk, Kai, Karok and Evie.

Connect your controller or Wireless Gaming Receiver before launching
the game. If you connect it during the game, The game won't be able to
 detect your controller.

I know there is no Gamepad Mode for Kai in the game.

So, how to play Kai with a controller? It's just like the other characters.

I don't use Gamepad Mode.
I set my controller in Advanced Settings instead.

Click Xbox360 Gamepad at the corner to apply its default layout and then modify it.

▲ Kai's screen
How to modify these key settings?
If you want to set the Run key just double-click Left Button of your mouse at the cross position between Run and Joypad 1 (the position of AUX5), and press the key you want for Run.

Kai's option setting is independent from the other characters'.
If you play Kai and some other characters, you will have to set it twice.

By the way, the setting files are in following location:
Vindictus\en-US\cfg\config.cfg
Vindictus\en-US\cfg\config_kay.cfg

Of course, the number of buttons on a controller is obviously not enough for current game.
A software that simulates the keyboard using your controller will solve the problem.
So I use Xpadder.

My Layouts

Melee

Kai

Evie

Due to the way of my layouts, you will have to hold an additional swap key to use the 2nd layouts.
I recommend putting your skills or items, which are frequently used, in 1 2 3 4 5.

I began to play with Karok, and then Evie, Kai and Hurk.
Therefore all the layouts are based on Karok's layout:
  • You will have to change your view while Evie is in Focus, so I swap Smash and SP Skill.
  • In order to eliminate Kai's Skill Slot key, just put all bow skills in Quick Slots.
  • Kai's Bow Mode is important, so I adjust the positions of SP Skill and Swap SP Skill.
  • Kai's aim depends on his view, so I change the positions of Normal Attack and Smash.
And Hurk can fit in Karok's layout perfectly. All divide into 3 kinds of layouts, Melee, Kai and Evie.

※ Although I don't play Lann, Fiona, Vella and Lynn, they may also fit in Melee layout.

We can't change the in-game setting after every time switching character, it's too inconvenient!
Therefore we can only set some common keys in the in-game setting, and hand over the others to Xpadder to set their own layouts.

The Common Settings in Advanced Settings:
  • Move Forward / Back / Left / Right
  • Run (XE doesn't need Run, just set Jump)
  • Dodge
  • Grab
  • View Up / Down / Left / Right

Xpadder Settings:

ESC - Skip Cutscene / Close Evie's Alchemy Box Quick Slots.
F1 - Usually use for noticing that
"I'm going to use something can hold the boss." (e.g., Evie's Reverse Gravity.)
 F2 - Expression of gratitude.
F10 - You will need it for Lakoria.
F11 - Sit / Agree to Kick someone.
F12 - Ready / Progress to next stage / Disagree to Kick someone.
 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 - The keys for Quick Slots items and skills.
Swap Set - Hold it down to use the 2nd layouts.
 Tab - Karok's Clash / Kai's Bow Mode
 S - Normal Attack
 D - Smash
 Z - SP Skill
 X - Swap SP Skill
 Ctrl - In-game Voice Chatting
Alt - Environment Info / Evie's Casting Key for the saved spells / RaidCall Push-to-talk

The orange parts are the functions that have to set in Xpadder to become effective.
Xpadder have to "Run as administrator" to take effect.
I put the Voice Chatting in the 2nd layouts because it can only use on board or during a battle.
I usually use RaidCall since its sound quality is much better.
And the main reason for not using Gamepad Mode is: You can't use HP Potion Proficiency with it.

▼ The usage of Lv.42 skill - HP Potion Proficiency

Ring Command Quick Slot can't make it.
This skill in Rank 3 allows you to restore an additional 60% HP when drinking an HP Potion.
It saves a lot of gold, and also makes the efficiency of HP Potions higher.
